Three Purple Frogs: Rowing on the Bayou

Row, row, rowing on the bayou in a yellow pirogue was an exciting adventure for a child and little brown puppy.

They encounter colorful animals, sights, and sounds as they journey through the bayou. Please come along, let’s row on the bayou together!

Renée Mancini

For 33 years, Renée Mancini lived a half mile from Honey Island Swamp on the Pearl River. Renée recalls her first boat ride through the swamp as an exciting adventure. She will always remember the sweet smell, the sounds, and, of course, the alligators. She says the swamp is a beautiful and unique place to visit. When family came to town, it was a special treat to ride with Captain Mel narrating the swamp journey. Captain Mel was a friend from high school who also introduced Renée to her husband. She enjoys living in Louisiana with the many waterways, such as bayous, rivers, and lakes. She eats fresh seafood almost every day and enjoys her alligator fried. Renée suggests a swamp boat tour if you visit Louisiana, but please do not feed the alligators!
