 George Santayana (1863–1952) was a Spanish-American philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist. A lifelong Spanish citizen, Santayana was raised and educated in the United States, wrote in English, and is considered to be a significant figure in classical philosophy. He wrote more than thirty essays, articles, and books over the span of his career.
