Lucy McDowell was born and grew up in Northern Ireland. After graduating with a degree in French from the Queen’s University of Belfast, she entered the teaching profession. She taught in schools in France, Germany and Morocco and eventually became principal of a Language School in Cambridge. Lucy returned to Northern Ireland to manage the family business which manufactured and supplied popcorn to supermarkets and cinemas. Now retired she and her husband live in Cambridgeshire close to their sons and grandsons.
