Conceived and sketched in pencil, Clouds was scribbled in moments in 1978.It is an imaginary story about a cloud contemplating and finding its identity, as a cloud. Wandering and finding companionship and its apparent purpose...until one day whilst floating really high, everything changes. It is a pictorial educational short story with a sweet surprise ending to be continued.
Gloria Gold was born in Boston Massachusetts, USA, to her loving parents, James and Julia Johnson. Her education started at Julia Ward Howe and finished at Boston University. She started writing her first novel at the age of seven, then experimented with varied art projects and writing genres as a teenager. She travelled abroad for reading, writing and drawing where she met her future husband. She later married her Englishman and moved to Southampton decades ago. She has two children, Equator Dawn and Solar Frances. Clouds was written during her second pregnancy as she sat with friends, looking out the window at the clouds flowing by – that turned into a gentle late summer rainstorm. She wrote a piece which was published in the ‘Artist magazine’ of 1979 and has been a professional artist for the last three decades and wrote proposals for Southampton city council/film and art diversity programs for young people. She was a founder member and on the board of directors for City Eye Film and Video Cooperative. She has a list of assorted writings – children’s stories, futuristic novels, poetry, a completed book of short stories in the queue for hopeful publication, and is presently focussing on her plays.
