“Say, have you heard of the marvelous and mysterious junkyard full of kittens?”
When Shasta shook her head, he said, “Let me show you, it’s only a few blocks away.”
But Shasta was reluctant and said, “I really don’t want to go too far or I’ll lose my way home.”
Amos persisted. “C’mon, it’s only a short distance. Besides, whenever you want to go, I’ll just bring you back.”

Peony grew to love the wonder of children’s books at a young age when his grade school teachers read aloud during story time. One of his fondest memories is when his mother took him to the library once a week and he could bring home stacks of books that transported him to different times and places. His stories were inspired by experiences while living in a small town near Memphis, where he received frequent visits from an outdoor cat that loved to be petted and have a bowl of milk every night.
