In this historical novel the author, G.A. Henty describes the events of the Ashanti campaign in Africa of which he was himself a witness. He has woven in a tale full of thrilling adventures. The hero is detained as a prisoner by the Ashanti king just before the outbreak of the war, but escapes, and accompanies the eng expedition on their march to Coomassie.
