Jack Goodall left school at 15 with no academic qualifications but good with his hands. He started work at a heavy engineering work as an improver – latter to become an apprentice. Then he did two years of national service in the British army Royal Fusiliers. Jack married young, to an even younger girl; they parted ways and were divorced. Then came five years of wandering the world until he met his current wife, while working as a sailing instructor in Spain. They have been married now for 50 years and have lived in Australia, the UK and now live in New Zealand.
